"Layer Cake" director Matthew Vaughn has been selected to direct "X-Men 3," with 20th Century Fox shooting for a May 26, 2006 release date.According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hugh Jackman is back on board as Wolverine, with the studio hoping to bring back the rest of the principal cast. Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are currently in negotiations to rejoin the adventures of the X-Men.
Filming is scheduled to begin in July 2005. Avi Arad, Lauren Shuler Donner and Ralph Winter will produce the movie for 20th Century Fox. Zak Penn and Simon Kinberg are writing the script.
Commenting on the selection of director Matthew Vaughn, Avi Arad told The Hollywood Reporter, "Matthew is an inspired choice. It took a while for inspiration to hit, but it happened."
