Wil Shriner adapted the script and will direct the film for New Line Cinema. Frank Marshall and Jimmy Buffett are producing the movie, with Buffett also contributing some original music to the project.
"Hoot" revolves around a young boy who moves to Florida where he tries to solve an ecological mystery involving endangered owls, an assortment of other unusual creatures, and group of eccentric adults.
Wilson will next be seen in the Mike Judge comedy, "3001," and has "The Wendell Baker Story," which he wrote, directed, and starred in, out on the film festival circuit.
