The Bottom Line

Ray Romano transitions to the big screen in this not-so-funny comedy, also starring Gene Hackman and Maura Tierney. If "Welcome to Mooseport" is any indication, then Romano should stick to small screen efforts where his 'every man' personality comes really shines.
Pros
  • Not as many laughs as you'd expect from a Ray Romano movie
  • Gene Hackman is good - but he doesn't have much to work with
Cons
  • The bonus features are basically promos for upcoming Fox movies

Description

  • 3 Deleted Scenes, 2 Extended Takes and an Alternate Ending
  • Outtake Reel
  • Optional Commentary by Director Donald Petrie
  • 'Soova' Commercial

Guide Review - "Welcome to Mooseport" DVD Review

Gene Hackman plays a retired United States President ready to settle for life in a small town until the need to stay in the public eye finds him fighting it out with the local handyman (Ray Romano) for the title of Mayor of Mooseport. Throw their competition for the heart of a pretty local woman (Maura Tierney) into the mix, and the battle for supremacy in Mooseport really heats up.

While the premise is funny and the actors (Ray Romano, Gene Hackman, Maura Tierney, Christine Baranski and Marcia Gay Harden) come with impressive pedigrees, the movie just never ignites. Bland when it should be funny, predictable when it needs to show us something new, "Welcome to Mooseport" is a forgettable comedy that only Romano's diehard "Everybody Loves Raymond" fans will probably enjoy.
