Guide Review - We Are Marshall DVD Review
On November 14, 1970 the Marshall University football team was heading home from an away game when their plane crashed just minutes from arriving back home in Huntington, West Virginia. All 75 people onboard the plane - football players, coaches, school administrators, supporters, and the plane's crew members - perished in the terrible accident.Immediately following the crash, school administrators - acting in what they believed to be the students' best interest - decided to cancel the football program. But the players who had remained behind from the trip and the student body wouldn't let the program die. With the help of newly hired coach Jack Lengyel (Matthew McConaughey) and assistant coach/recruiter Red Dawson (Matthew Fox), who was originally scheduled to be on the doomed flight but opted to drive home instead, the Thundering Herd was rebuilt.
We Are Marshall is the story of how a community came together and helped each other heal after suffering a huge loss.
The Bonus Features
There are only a couple of bonus features included on the We Are Marshall DVD and neither are really all that engaging. Missing are any deleted scenes or even a Making Of featurette, and there's no commentary track. This is a barebones edition and the lack of extras is really disappointing given the fact this is such an interesting true story that many people don't know in great detail.
