The Extra Features and Blu-ray Review
Snyder's color choices are faithful to Dave Gibbons' illustrations and look brilliant on Blu-ray. The video is sharp, with real depth and texture. It's an excellent transfer, vibrant and free of blemishes. The audio is crisp and clear during dialogue, and in action scenes is flinch-worthy. Every punch and every explosion is lively and pops.As for the extra features, Watchmen has now raised the bar with its Maximum Movie Mode. Instead of a normal commentary track, this Maximum Movie Mode is a thing to behold. Snyder takes viewers inside Watchmen with behind the scenes footage, timelines, side-by side comparisons of the graphic novel panels to the film, and even stops the film to point out specific details. It's an incredible viewing experience and one Watchmen fans aren't going to want to miss. Plus, it has a really neat feature in that you can stop watching it and it'll remember where you were next time you start it up. You can also access 11 of the behind the scenes segments separately, if you like.
Disc two contains three featurettes and a My Chemical Romance music video. "The Phenomenon: The Comic that Changed Comics" is an in-depth look at what's considered one of the best graphic novels ever written. "Real Super Heroes: Real Vigilantes" features interviews with historians, Guardian Angels, and others knowledgeable about vigilantism. And, finally, learn why Dr. Manhattan is blue as well as other fun facts in "Mechanics: Technologies of A Fantastic World."
The special edition Watchmen Director's Cut also includes a digital copy of the theatrical release.
