The Eastwood film is based on the Battle of Iwo Jima, which was immortalized by the photograph of US military men raising the American flag on Mount Suribachi. Walker joins Ryan Phillippe, Adam Beach ("Windtalkers"), and Jesse Bradford who have already signed on to the film. Walker will play one of the men who raised the flag, Hank Hansen.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, filming will begin in September in Iceland and various locations throughout the United States.
Paul Walker will next be seen in "Into the Blue" co-starring Jessica Alba.
