Malick's attention to detail is practically legendary and with "The New World," he's hoping to bring the legend of Pocahontas and John Smith to life in a much more realistic fashion than what's been told before.
In an interview with Irene Bedard who plays Pocahontas' mother in the film, the actress told me Malick insisted on every little thing being as historically accurate as possible. "He wouldnt even let them build [the set] with 21st century tools. The whole set was built with tools that were used at the time. Same with the wardrobe. It was all done the way it was done then," said Bedard.
Farrell stars as English explorer John Smith in Malick's "The New World." The story's set in 17th century Jamestown, Virginia and focuses on the relationship that developed between Smith and the Indian princess, Pocahontas (played by newcomer QOrianka Kilcher). Christian Bale co-stars as John Rolfe, Christopher Plummer plays Captain Newport, and Noah Taylor is Selway in "The New World" which hits theaters on December 25th.
