Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer Movie Preview

The 2005 Fantastic Four didn't exactly win over critics but as comic book fans like to point out, it's rare mainstream critics get films of this genre. Still, it was tough going the first time out for Tim Story and his Fantastic Four cast. Everything but the film's special effects took a hit in the press, yet that didn't stop 20th Century Fox from greenlighting a sequel. And if the trailer is in any way indicative of what's in store for fans, then Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver might just draw in a whole new group of supporters.

The first film took care of the origin story so the second one takes off with the Fantastic Four - Reed Richards/Mr Fantastic (Ioan Gruffudd), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Jessica Alba), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Chris Evans) and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Michael Chiklis) - getting right into the action. The team of superheroes must face their most difficult challenge to date as the Silver Surfer comes to Earth to prepare for the planet's destruction. Unfortunately for the Fantastic Four, they not only have that creature to deal with but their mortal enemy, Dr Doom (Julian McMahon), also returns to cause trouble.

And speaking of the Silver Surfer, Doug Jones (an actor who's built a solid reputation playing incredible creatures on film) did all the work of bringing the character to life on the set. But when audiences see the film it'll be Laurence Fishburne who gives the character his voice.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer invades theaters on June 15, 2007.
