No write-up on The Dark Knight would be complete without the mention of the passing of Heath Ledger. Ledger poured his heart and soul into the role of The Joker in the film, and the stress of playing such a dark character took its toll on the Oscar-nominated actor. Warner Bros and director Christopher Nolan have to navigate a treacherous path in promoting the film as it's impossible to ignore the subject of Ledger's death (at the age of just 28), and downplaying his part in The Dark Knight is absolutely not an option. Will it be difficult for Ledger fans to watch his performance in The Dark Knight? Most definitely yes. But by all accounts Ledger was proud of the work he did on the movie and I believe avoiding the film just because he's in it isn't necessarily the best way to honor his memory.
Synopsis: With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), Batman (Bale) sets out to destroy organized crime in Gotham for good. The triumvirate proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a rising criminal mastermind known as the Joker (Ledger), who thrusts Gotham into anarchy and forces the Dark Knight ever closer to crossing the fine line between hero and vigilante.
The Dark Knight is back in action on July 18, 2008.
