Now, the most mature of Sparks' romantic stories heads to theaters with Diane Lane and Richard Gere in the lead roles, and with acclaimed Broadway writer/director George C Wolfe at the helm. Nights in Rodanthe reunites the stars of The Cotton Club and Unfaithful for a romantic drama aimed at older audiences - a demographic not usually targeted by Hollywood studios. Here's hoping ticket sales are brisk so that even more quiet, thoughtful films can be greenlit.
The Story
Adrienne (Lane) takes on the job of filling in for a friend who owns a bed and breakfast in order to allow herself some time away from home; she needs the opportunity to think about her chaotic family life. The only guest at the bed and breakfast that weekend is Dr. Paul Flanner (Gere), and Adrienne believes she'll have plenty of alone time to sort out her personal matters. But as she gets to know the handsome doctor, Adrienne is drawn to the man she's just barely met but feels like she's known forever.
Nights in Rodanthe weaves its love story over moviegoers on September 26, 2008.
