Even if all the publicity during the Olympics doesn't translate to ticket sales, Body of Lies is close to being a sure-fire hit anyway. Director/three-time Oscar nominee Ridley Scott reunites for the fourth time with an actor who's apparently one of his favorites to work with - Oscar-winner Russell Crowe. Their most recent project was 2007's American Gangster which earned two Academy Awards nominations (although none for its lead actors, Crowe and Denzel Washington). And Crowe's Body of Lies co-star Leonardo DiCaprio's popularity continues to soar coming off a red hot 2006 which saw him nab his third Oscar nomination for his performance in Blood Diamond. That's a heady amount of Oscar recognition between the two leads and their director...
An interesting side note: The last time Crowe and DiCaprio were together onscreen was a dozen years ago in the under-performing Western, The Quick and the Dead, directed by Sam Raimi.
The Story
Leonardo DiCaprio plays a CIA operative on a mission to take down a terrorist leader in Jordan. Russell Crowe is a CIA veteran who controls the mission and who DiCaprio's character suspects may not be fully upfront about his motivations.
Body of Lies explodes into theaters on October 10, 2008.
