YoHo YoHo a Pirate's Life...You Know the Rest

I remember my exact reaction the first time I heard Disney was making a movie based on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. It was, "Huh?" Followed closely by, "Why?" Now I feel like a dope for ever doubting Johnny Depp's ability to pull it off. Depp was the only reason I consented to watching the first film and he didn't let me - or audiences worldwide - down.

The second and third films are currently in production, with all the majors players (including director Gore Verbinski) from the first "Pirates" returning for both sequels. Johnny Depp reprises his role as Captain Jack Sparrow, a character Depp claims is a mix of Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones and Pepe Le Pew (you know, the cartoon skunk). And speaking of Richards, Depp has been actively campaigning to have Richards play his dad onscreen in the sequels. Now that I'd actually pay to see. Original "Pirates of the Caribbean" stars Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley also darn their pirating garb again for "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" and the third as-yet-unnamed "Pirates" film.

The basic story: The second film of the series finds Captain Jack a marked man. It seems Jack owes a debt to the legendary Davey Jones and he's not ready to pay up. With Jack's soul on the line, he has to figure out a way out or else he'll be doomed to eternal damnation.
