If the 2006 version of All the King's Men doesn't work, it probably won't be due to the acting. An all-star cast including Sean Penn, Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Mark Ruffalo, Patricia Clarkson, and Sir Anthony Hopkins join with director Steven Zaillian (Academy-Award winning writer of Schindler's List, director of A Civil Action) for this dramatic film based on the 1946 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Robert Penn Warren.

Originally scheduled for release last year, Columbia Pictures delayed the film so that the editing process would not be rushed. Before All the King's Men was postponed, some Oscar forecasters had the film on the short list of potential Best Picture nominees for 2005. While the buzz surrounding the film has somewhat died down, there's still a distinct possibility this could be one of Columbia Pictures' best bets for year-end honors.

The Story: All the King's Men was inspired by the story of Huey Pierce Long (aka The Kingfish), the former Governor and U. S. Senator from Louisiana. Set in the world of Louisiana politics, the movie follows the rise and fall of Willie Stark, a man who is the very embodiment of the saying: "Absolute power corrupts absolutely."

All the King's Men campaigns for attention on September 22, 2006.
