I'm betting that by the end of National Treasure's opening weekend back in 2004, the powers that be at Disney had already said yes to a sequel. The first film left it wide open for further adventures in treasure hunting, and the fact the stars of National Treasure along with the film's director were agreeable to a sequel must have made it real easy to get National Treasure: Book of Secrets into production. Adding Academy-Award winner Helen Mirren (The Queen) and four-time Oscar nominee Ed Harris helps show Disney's not resting on its National Treasure laurels and instead aiming to do even better than the original which wound up grossing over $325 million worldwide.

The Story
Benjamin Franklin Gates (Nicolas Cage) has to prove his great-great grandfather's innocence when a new piece of evidence turns up implicating his ancestor in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln.

National Treasure: Book of Secrets hunts down box office business beginning December 21, 2007.
