Giamatti also revealed the dialogue in Fred Claus was almost entirely improvised. "I had never done something purely improvised like that, but I figured that was what the thing was going to be and so it would be fun to go with it," said Giamatti. "You know, it's not my preferred way of working because I'm too paranoid to do that, but it was fun. It ended up being a lot of fun. I mean, once I really got the hang of it, it was actually really enjoyable."
The Story
How would it feel to have Saint Nick as your little brother? Well, Santa Claus' big brother Fred (Vaughn) can tell you there's no way you'd ever be able to live up to your sibling's accomplishments. And if you can't ever hope to be as loved and accepted as your brother, then the only thing left to do - at least in Fred's mind - is go the opposite direction and lead a life no one would want to emulate. Winding up in trouble with the law, Fred's only shot at redemption is to take a job working alongside his brother at the North Pole.
