Jerry Seinfeld is so into promoting
Bee Movie that he donned a
gigantic bee costume and flew (tethered safely to a rope rig) over the crowd gathered to watch the unusual spectacle at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival. The comedian built up a huge following on TV during
Seinfeld's lengthy run (the series aired on NBC from 1990-1998) and has spent years tweaking the
Bee Movie script with a few fellow
Seinfeld writers, with the hope that finally making the transition to the big screen by way of an animated movie will pay off in spades. Gearing up for a family-oriented comedy is certainly different than prepping an episode of
Seinfeld, but the actor/writer is counting on his sense of humor appealing to more than just those who made up the
Seinfeld audience.
The Story
Barry B Benson (voiced by Seinfeld) has just graduated college and is ready to enter the work force as a productive member of the Honex team. But Barry soon figures out there's a whole world outside of his hive - and it's a world he wants to explore. Hitching a ride along with the Pollen Jocks (an elite group of bees), Barry ventures out into the world of people where an encounter with a florist named Vanessa (Renee Zellweger) turns his black and yellow world on its head.
