It sounds as though Damon doesn't want the Bourne franchise to wind up beating a dead horse, and you can't argue with such sound reasoning. Also, author Robert Ludlum only wrote three Jason Bourne books so if the franchise continued on, it wouldn't have a book to rely on for material (even though the plots of the Bourne films were only very loosely based on Ludlum's work in the first place). But audiences love the Bourne movies. The first film brought in over $210 million worldwide during its theatrical run and the second film did even better. It might be tough to shut down a franchise if the third film surpasses the first two.
The Story - Jason Bourne still can't remember who he is and he's being hunted down by those who don't want him to discover the who, what and whys behind what caused him to lose his memory. But Bourne has a plan. He'll retrace his life and go back to the beginning to figure out who's trying to kill him and why they want him dead.
Interesting Tidbits - The Bourne Supremacy director Paul Greengrass returns for the third film, as do Julia Stiles and Joan Allen. Filming took place in the United States, Morocco, Spain, France, and the United Kingdom.
The Bourne Ultimatum tracks down audiences on August 3, 2007.
