Charlize Theron started off as a model in her native South Africa before moving to the United States to dance as a ballerina with the Joffrey Ballet. A knee injury ended her dance career. At the age of 18, Theron made the trip to LA in pursuit of a movie career.

Significant Other:

Theron met Irish actor Stuart Townsend while working on the 2002 drama, Trapped. The two have been together ever since.

A Little Personal Trivia:

When Theron was just 15, her mother shot and killed her father in self-defense.

Award-Worthy Performances:

Theron earned her first Oscar in 2004 for her starring role in Monster, the dramatic retelling of the life of serial killer Aileen Wuornos. Theron earned her second Oscar nomination in 2006 for her performance in North Country but lost out to Reese Witherspoon in Walk the Line.
