Do you look at things differently now after being involved in The Reaping?
“Well I think that’s another element of this movie which is that something happened to my character. She was a missionary in the beginning of the movie. She loses her faith from something that has happened to her and she regains it through the events of the movie. She regains her faith. There are a lot of people [like that] and I met some of them. One of the authors of the magazine came and he talked about, ‘Well, yeah, for everything someone says will happen there’s a scientific reason and I don’t believe in God.’ He says, ‘You know, everything has a scientific reason.’ You hear him talking about it and it’s just so interesting his outlook on life. I can appreciate that, but then you see so many other things that don’t really have an answer and what is that, what does that mean? So it’s just interesting to think about, if nothing else.”

Do you believe this movie will have audiences thinking about those same things?
“I do. I mean I think in the beginning a lot of people will say, ‘Oh, is there really a scientific reason?’ She’s going around and she’s debunking these myths and all of a sudden she comes across one that she can’t scientifically prove.”

How was filming in Louisiana?
“Great. We were there when the hurricanes happened and then to see people come together through hard times like that… It was always just an important reminder of life and what’s important. And to be there and try and help the community rebuild through continuing to pay for jobs and put people up in hotels - it’s all good.”

Did the town appreciate the fact you guys were there providing jobs during that difficult period of time?
“I think so, for sure. They certainly talked about it and were happy to have a place to go. Also just because they were such emotionally wrecks that it gave them a place to kind of go and try and make it through, so they didn’t have to like dwell on something and really think about it. It gave them a place to go and that felt nice.”

And next up you’re doing a comedy?
“I did a romantic comedy called P. S. I Love You.”

Is it true Gerard Butler hurt you on the set?
“Yeah. He didn’t mean to. I wouldn’t say he ‘hurt’ me, but there was an accident on the set.”

And you had to get stitches?
“Yes.”

That must have been crazy.
“Yeah, it was funny. He felt so bad. And he actually was on the plane with me today because he’s here talking about 300 so we laughed about it.”

It’s a good thing you can laugh about it.
“Oh yeah. You know, things happen.”
