Kalani Queypo is one of the newcomers to the big screen who has a featured role in Terrence Malick's epic drama, "The New World." Queypo plays Pocahontas' brother Parahunt in Malick's retelling of the classic Pocahontas/John Smith love story.

Malick's "The New World" was the opening night film of the 17th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival. "The New World" star Q'Orianka Kilcher and producer Sarah Green were on hand to stroll down the red carpet at the opening night event, while Kalani Queypo put in an appearance at the festival's big star-studded gala held on Saturday, January 7, 2005 at the new Palm Springs Convention Center.

The Palm Springs Film Festival Award Gala boasted a celebrity line-up which rivaled most award shows and Hollywood film premieres. And while the major stars of the event - Jake Gyllenhaal, Charlize Theron, Terrence Howard, and Felicity Huffman - were hustled along the red carpet, unable to stop and do interviews with print or online outlets, many of the other actors and celebs who attended the event but weren't required up on stage did have time to share their thoughts on the festival and their own recent and upcoming projects.
