"The Incredibles" Soundtrack

Walt Disney Records
BURBANK, Calif., Oct. 27, 2004 - The adventure begins November 2, 2004 with the Walt Disney Records release of the orchestral score soundtrack and audio story adventure to the Disney-Pixar animated feature "The Incredibles." Michael Giacchino makes his feature film composing debut with "The Incredibles" Soundtrack. His credits include a wide range of music for television and interactive games such as the "Medal of Honor" and "Call of Duty" franchises, plus the ABC TV hit dramas "Alias" and "Lost." "The Incredibles" Soundtrack features nineteen memorable tracks in a score that evokes the caper comedies and spy thrillers of the '60s with a fresh twist.

The soundtrack CD booklet includes extensive liner notes by veteran score commentator Paul Tonk and by "The Incredibles'" writer/director Brad Bird ("Iron Giant").

Brad Bird:
"...when thinking about this film, a certain sound always seemed to accompany the best film and television adventures of the early to mid-sixties; stories about superheroes and super spies, perilous missions and international intrigue. This was the sound that I wanted; big, bold, jazzy -- played by a full orchestra with oceans of brass, music that had the size and emotional sweep of traditional symphonic film scores, but filtered through the cool of jazz and the explosive simplicity of rock. I had trouble finding a composer who could honor that sound without feeling imprisoned by it ...until I met Michael Giacchino."

Paul Tonk:
"'The Incredibles' called for music that soars with exhilaration of saving the planet, hisses at the bad guy's sinister schemes, and constantly cries 'cool' about how it feels to be a superhero. You'll hear screeches from saxophones and muted horns, fluttering flutes, bold heroic trumpet calls and thumping drumbeats. Boogie-woogie-like rhythms suggest a super-powered swagger, and the many musical motifs suggest the ideals of a close-knit family."

"Mr. Incredible's theme music was carefully developed; sounding proudly patriotic and classically straightforward when he's young and somewhat naive, and progressing in a series of stylistic half steps as he gets older and wiser, his life complicated by the raising of a family. The first of these steps is heard towards the end of the cue 'Bob vs. Omnidroid,' while the theme culminates in the last track 'The Incredits,' which brings the whole musical tale together."

Michael Giacchino:
"When all is said and done, 'The Incredibles' is about real emotion. It's about someone hugging and then something exploding. I feel the score has come to mean the same thing to me."

About the film:
From the Academy Award(R) winning team behind "Toy Story," "Monsters, Inc." and "Finding Nemo" comes a story of an American family that takes the animated motion picture into realms of drama and design never seen before. With "The Incredibles," writer-director Brad Bird and Pixar Animation Studios pioneer the creation of a computer-generated world so rich, complex and inventively "alive" that the motion picture experience it creates is altogether human.

"The Incredibles" follows the adventures of a family of former superheroes rediscovering the true source of their powers -- in one another. Once one of the world's top masked crimefighters, Bob Parr (AKA Mr. Incredible) fought evil and saved lives on a daily basis. But fifteen years later, he and his wife Helen (a famous former superhero in her own right) have been forced to take on civilian identities and retreat to the suburbs. Today they live as mere mortals and lead all-too-ordinary lives with their children -- who go out of their way to appear "normal." As a clock-punching insurance man, the only thing Bob fights these days is boredom and a bulging waistline. Itching for action, the sidelined superhero gets his chance when a mysterious communication summons him to a remote island for a top-secret assignment. Now, with the fate of the world hanging in the balance, the family must come together and once again find the fantastic in their family life.
