Guide Review - The Good Shepherd DVD Review
The Cold War provides the backdrop for this intriguing glimpse into the early days of America's Central Intelligence Agency. Matt Damon (The Departed) stars as Edward Wilson, an intelligent, hard-working young man who believes there's no better way to serve his country than to dedicate his life to working with the government.Wilson's recruited from college to work in the Office of Strategic Services and from that position becomes one of the first operatives for the Central Intelligence Agency. His career takes him out of the country for extended periods of time, which causes an enormous rift in his marriage to Clover (Angelina Jolie). As he gets caught up in trying to take down Russian spies, Wilson's personal life - and his son's - become entangled in the deadly world of high stakes espionage.
The Bonus Features
If ever a DVD deserved a commentary track, this one surely did. De Niro the filmmaker offering his explanations behind the inclusion of specific scenes and how he interpreted the story would have made for interesting viewing. As it is, The Good Shepherd DVD is a bare-bones release with only seven deleted scenes included in the extra features.
