Rupert Wainwright on How He Plans to Scare Audiences With This Remake: “I hate jump scares. They drive me, seriously… I’m totally serious. I call them cat-in-the-refrigerator scares. I really, really, really hate them. And we’ll see how many I manage to keep out of the movie.

But there’s a lot of really scary elements in the movie. I mean you have to see the whole thing. But you know, the fog does all sorts of very bizarre, weird things to people and you have no idea how or why. I don’t want to sort of downplay this, there’s still some sort of, for a PG-13 movie it’s as gory as it can get. I mean, people have stuff in the eyes, and it’s very scary for sure.”

Rupert Wainwright on the Gore Level: “Is it gory? It certainly is. Yes, pretty awful things happen to people. Yeah. I mean, people get leprosy, people get burned, people get stabbed, people get stuff in their eye. …There’s a high body count, don’t worry about it.

[There will be] more than six bodies. Our phrase is [whispers] “ALL MUST DIE”. Not just six. No, we’re gonna do the whole f***ing island.”

On Why Filmmakers Keep Remaking Horror Movies: “For the most part, Hollywood is just kind of lazy. I don’t think that’s a big secret,” said Wainwright. Grace added, “We’re certainly better equipped with visual effects now, too.”

Will the Killing Be Highly Stylized?: “It’s not horribly stylized. We want to scare people. This is a scary movie with a scary premise, a scary idea. There’s a mystery in it and what we’ve really tried to do is add stuff to the original, rather than switch it out. We’re not trying to throw away what’s good about the original.

I think I said in my very first meeting, I said, ‘My approach to this is a little bit like a doctor: first, do no harm. There’s a lot of stuff here already, let’s not throw that stuff out. Let’s keep as much as we can.’ Having said that, a lot of it changed a lot more than expected, to be honest. It’s still the same story but it’s kind of radically different in a way. But like halfway through the movie, you’re gonna go, ‘It’s the same movie, right?’ This is not the same movie. It’s the same story line. Then it starts changing and twisting and twisting and it’s, in the end, very different.”

Maggie Grace on Those “X-Men 3” Rumors: Asked about her next project, Grace said, “My current project is ‘Lost.’ I’m about to head back to Hawaii. I’m pretty excited about it.” Was there any truth to the rumor she’d been cast as Kittie Pryde in “X-Men 3?” Grace explained, “I have met everybody there and it was a possibility but no, I’m not doing ‘X3.’ Despite all the media reports, Grace said there was never any truth to the rumor she’d signed on to “X-Men 3.” “It’s funny how the press, I mean God bless all of you, but someone runs with things some times… I mean, I didn’t tell anybody certainly, and I, somehow there was a leak somewhere along the line. But no, not really.”

Maggie Grace on the Upcoming Season of ‘Lost:’ “We find out what's in the hatch very quickly. I can tell you that much. There’s also more about Jack's marriage and why Shannon's so screwed up.” Asked if the relationship between her character and the one played by Naveen Andrews continues to heat up, Grace said, “I certainly hope so. There was certainly kind of a tentative, brief connection.”
