20th Century Fox today announced the 2008 remake of the classic sci-fi tale The Day the Earth Stood Still will be simultaneously released in regular theaters and IMAX on December 12, 2008. Keanu Reeves (no stranger to the sci-fi genre having starred in The Matrix series) plays Klaatu, an alien from outer space who comes to Earth to try and stop humans from destroying each other and our planet. Jennifer Connelly co-stars as young woman who gets caught up in trying to help Klaatu complete his mission.
In a press statement announcing the IMAX release, Bruce Snyder, President of Domestic Distribution for Twentieth Century Fox, said, "The suspense, action and sheer intensity of The Day The Earth Stood Still is ideally suited to IMAX's immersive format. We're very excited to once again expand our relationship with IMAX to offer moviegoers a chance to experience another one of our tent-pole movies in a truly unique and premium way."
The Day the Earth Stood Still hits theaters on December 12, 2008.
