French actress Audrey Tautou ("Amelie," "A Very Long Engagement") has joined the cast of "The Da Vinci Code," starring Tom Hanks. Ron Howard will direct from a screenplay by Akiva Goldsman. Brian Grazer and John Calley are producing the film.

Tautou will play cryptographer Sophie Neveu who teams up with symbologist Robert Langdon (Hanks) to try and uncover clues which they hope will lead them to the killer of Sophie's grandfather. Their hunt for the killer exposes a secret society.

Commenting on the casting of Audrey Tautou, producer Brian Grazer told Variety, "You get so much information out of Audrey's face and eyes that it's hardly surprising she's become one of the more esteemed actresses in France." Grazer also reiterated the movie will very closely follow Dan Brown's book.

Production is expected to begin in June 2005 with a release date set for May 19, 2006.
