Guide Review - "The 40 Year Old Virgin" Unrated Version DVD Review

Steve Carell stars as Andy Stitzer, a 40-year-old virgin (hence the title of the movie) whose secret is found out by his appliance store co-workers (played by Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, and Romany Malco).

Andy's actually fine with his situation but his buddies can't leave it alone. After the cat's out of the bag, his buddies offer some pretty strange advice on how to get laid, none of which really does any good. It appears Andy may go through life without experiencing sex until he meets a single mom (Catherine Keener) who he falls head over heels in love with.

"The 40 Year Old Virgin" is a surprisingly touching film. Yes, there are plenty of penis jokes and the comedy is down-and-dirty, but there's a sweet love story at the core of the film that's really very moving. It also benefits from an amazing cast who work well off of each other and a writer/director who knows when to let his actors play.

DVD BONUS FEATURES

This is one of the few comedies in which the commentary track is on par with the film itself. The cast and writer/director Judd Apatow reveal the genesis of some of the jokes and interact in a loose and geniune way, (it's not one of those fake 'you were so good in this scene' kind of commentary tracks). In fact, this is one of the only DVDs where every single bonus feature is worth a look. From the gag reel to the deleted scenes, every feature has something funny to offer.
