Jan 29, 2008 - Channing Tatum has taken on the role of 'Duke' in the action adventure movie G.I. Joe directed by Stephen Sommers (Van Helsing). Paramount Pictures is aiming for an August 7, 2009 release of the live-action film.

In addition to Tatum, the G.I. Joe cast includes Sienna Miller, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marlon Wayans, Rachel Nichols and Ray Park. Sam Worthington was originally set to play Duke, however his work with James Cameron on Avatar conflicted with the start of production on G.I. Joe.

Stuart Beattie wrote the script based on the Hasbro toy series. Sommers, Bob Ducsay, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, and Brian Goldner are producing the film.

Tatum had a super busy 2006 with starring roles in two teen pics - She's the Man and Step Up. Tatum stepped away from fluffy teen-oriented fare with the critically acclaimed indie drama A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints which showed off a different side of the former model-turned-actor. He'll next be seen in Stuart Townsend's Battle in Seattle and Kimberly Peirce's Stop Loss.
