The Bottom Line

Filmmaker Tim Burton and his favorite collaborator, Johnny Depp, reunite to bring Stephen Sondheim's hit musical Sweeney Todd to the big screen. Depp, who's not known for his singing skills, shares the screen with Helena Bonham Carter (also not known for possessing outstanding singing skills) in a lively, bloody, and hugely entertaining musical that's definitely not for younger viewers.

Guide Review - 'Sweeney Todd' 2-Disc Special Edition DVD Review

The Story

Depp stars as a barber out for revenge in this twisted tale of murder and meat pies. After a crooked judge steals away his family, the handsome young barber is sent off to jail. Years later he returns town, changes his name to Sweeney Todd, and sets out to get even. With the help of a bakery shop owner (Bonham Carter) and a sharp set of knives, Sweeney's ingenious plan is set in motion.

The Bonus Features

I don't think it would have been possible to come up with even one more extra feature for the Sweeney Todd 2-Disc Special Edition. Everything but the kitchen sink is included on this DVD which actually lives up to its 'Special Edition' title. Every facet of the making of Sweeney Todd is examined in-depth somewhere in one of the many featurettes. And what's really amazing is that there's not a single extra feature that doesn't deserved to be watched. Even the press conference is entertaining...
