The stars of Superman Returns joined the film’s director, Bryan Singer, on the red carpet for a special event to celebrate the release of Superman Returns on DVD. Before relaxing and enjoying themselves at the Superman Returns DVD launch party, Brandon Routh, Stephan Bender, Eva Marie Saint and Sam Huntington talked about the film, the DVD extras, and what they expect of the next Superman movie.

Brandon Routh – ‘Superman/Clark Kent’

What villain do you want to see in Superman: The Man of Steel?
Brandon Routh: “Well, there's a lot of talk about Brainiac. Everyone wants to see Brainiac. But I tell you what, in the Superman Returns video game, you get to play as Bizarro. Bizarro's pretty fun; you can have some fun with that. So I would lean towards one of those. With Brainiac there's a lot of possibilities there. He's another mastermind villain so he can create any number of evil things.”

Superman Returns was a love letter to Richard Donner. Will Bryan Singer now make Superman his own?
Brandon Routh: “Certainly. Bryan had a huge feat on his hands. He had to recreate Superman for the 21st generation with a huge gap since the last film came out. He also has a new guy in the pipes, so he had a lot of hurdles to leap. He did a fantastic job. You have to make the character real and believable and lovable again, so he did that in a fantastic way. Now the world is his oyster. He can do whatever he wants now because he's put Superman back to where he should be.”

Is there anything you're looking forward to playing next time?
Brandon Routh: “Well, there's talk of fighting, so that would be, instead of getting beat up this time, maybe throwing some punches or at least throw some bad guys around. So that'd be fun for some different kind of stunts. See how the relationship with Lois progresses…”

How will he explain to his mom that he's messing around with a nearly married woman?
Brandon Routh: “Well, you know what? Martha's a pretty forward-thinking, smart woman. I think she might understand the situation. It's not like he came back and broke it up. They had a relationship before.”

Was there ever a point you doubted they’d do another one?
Brandon Routh: “Maybe a little bit, but you know what? I intended from the very beginning when I got the role to know that I'd at least be… [That I] wanted to do two films. Do the first one, get my feet wet, figure out what I'm doing. Then the second one, it's not a piece of cake but it's definitely much more enjoyable and definitely let it all hang out there.”

Is there any work you're excited to see on the DVD?
Brandon Routh: “Yeah, there's a scene with Ben Hubbard played by James Karen where I meet him at the family farm, the Kent Farm, which is pretty funny which got axed from the movie. But it was a really funny scene.”

What do you think of the idea of the Batman vs. Superman movie?
Brandon Routh: “I have not been talked about it. Everyone wants to ask questions about that but if that was to happen, that would probably be much, much later, after we've done a few more of these films.”

A special message from Brandon Routh to About.com readers:
“I know [About] has a lot of soap coverage dating from back to my Seth Anderson days, so I want to let you guys at About.com know there's a short film available for download on iTunes at the end of November, about the 28th. It's called Denial so anybody can check it out and see it. It's very exciting."

Eva Marie Saint – ‘Martha Kent’

How’s it feel to be a part of the Superman family?
Eva Marie Saint: “My role as Martha, I was on a farm in Australia where we shot it, so I wasn't in the frenzy of making it. It wasn't until I saw the film that I realized what a big blockbuster it was.”

Did Bryan Singer ever show the stress of carrying on the production?
Eva Marie Saint: “He was very, as they say, cool. Actually, when I started filming at the very beginning, at one point they had a little trouble with one of the cameras so we did scenes over. That was sort of fun to be in on the very beginning. It was a long haul and I played my thing and left.”

Have you heard any word on being back for the sequel?
Eva Marie Saint: “I think I'm supposed to. I think it's in the contract. I wasn't sure there was going to be one, but that's nice.”

What would Martha think of Superman carrying on with a practically married woman?
Eva Marie Saint: “The point is I have a grandson now, right? I can give Lois a few instructions, what to do, how to do it. Maybe I'll get to fly.”

A trip in the air with Brandon Routh?
Eva Marie Saint: “Yeah, with Brandon and his son and his mother. The trio.”

On the DVD we see your character dating. Are you excited to see that included as a deleted scene?
Eva Marie Saint: “Well, yeah. I don't know why they had to take it out. Just too much sex I think (laughing).”

Were there other scenes of yours that were cut?
Eva Marie Saint: “No, that was just in the beginning and I think our director decided that he didn't want the mother to be involved with anybody else. He wanted the son/mother relationship and it was stronger if there wasn't another person involved.”

What did the scenes entail?
Eva Marie Saint: “Just talking. He brings me flowers and he meets Clark for the first time, and we're going off to play Bingo. We're playing Scrabble in the beginning. I love that part, but it's showbiz.”

What would you like to see in the next Superman movie?
Eva Marie Saint: “It would be fun to bring him back, maybe, to have a boyfriend. I mean, she's a lady who's on the farm and he's been gone. And as I say in the film, which you'll see, he can do everything but the world keeps spinning. Meaning, ‘I have a life, you're gone.’ It made her an interesting lady. She wasn't sitting home waiting for Superman.”
