Will Brandon Routh Impersonate Christopher Reeve?: No. We looked at some of the original Superman just to take a look at it together. But by no means did I ever say, Act like Christopher Reeve.
Its weird with Brandon. One moment hes a dead ringer for Christopher Reeve, the next minute you see that hes completely different. So it kind of captures moments of that. Hell have moments where youll recall the first film and moments where hes his own Clark. Hes his own Superman.
Bryan Singer on Clark Kent: Hes goofy. Hes playing a role. Clark is definitely, hes not young Clark from the farm I mean, youll see a bit of that, but in The Daily Planet hes awkward, you know? Hes the invisible guy. Hes playing a role. Thats his costume and Superman is him.
On Shooting in Australia: The only issue with Australia for me is just the personal distance. My family lives in New Jersey and my home is in L.A. and if, God forbid, something were to happen to my family, its 22 hours travel. But so far, the crew has been extraordinary. Weve got a lot of people off King Kong. Weve got a lot of other folks off Star Wars and The Matrix. They have a terrific crew. So for me, its just the sense of a combination of a little homesickness. On a day itll get to me. Its intangible, because the place is beautiful. Sydney is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
On Cameos By Members of the Original Cast: Oh absolutely. Theres two cameos: Noel Neill and Jack Larson who play the original Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen from the 1952, 51, 53, whatever, series. Jack Clark plays the bartender with Jimmy Olsen in the scene so its great. They have a scene together. And it was fun to shoot that day. It was a very long day. Jack worked - Jack there flew 15 hours to get there and worked an 18 hour day. Hes not young, so hes got a lot of energy. I was really impressed.
Bryan Singer on Casting Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane: I saw the movie Beyond the Sea twice - and yeah, she was phenomenal and I really liked her and I brought her in to read with Brandon and they had a chemistry. It was a combination of her work in Beyond the Sea and the chemistry she had in the room with Brandon and her, the general sense I had in the meeting. You know, when you meet somebody thats, for me, when I cast, Ive had a good record with casting and its sort of in the meetings when I fully make that decision.
And for those of you wondering, Singer did not make Kate Bosworth wear contact lenses. He says he likes her two different colored eyes just the way they are.
Bryan Singer on the Superman Returns Script: My style is every day we invent something new. Every day I freak out and change something, which has a ripple effect on everything Im going to shoot. It happened just the other day. But its always exciting. Its always for the best, so its a mixed bag. But thats why its great having Dan [Harris] and Mike [Dougherty] there all the time. Because I can sit there and suddenly say, Why am I doing this? Why dont This should happen. And theyre right there to help me make it happen or vice versa.
The Source of the Story: Its mostly original, like original material. If you look back in the comic history, theyve done pretty much about everything. Supermans rescued everything, picked up everything, thrown everything, caught and captured and everythings bounced off him. You have to just see what serves the story that youre telling at the given moment. But theres definitely a respect to taking an overview of the series and an overview of the movies and an overview of the serials and an overview of the musical, which Ive seen. Yeah, they did it. Taking a piece of everything and the comic, of course, and all its incarnations to kind of give it a general [tone].
Richard White/Perry White The Connection: Singer cleared up one misunderstanding thats been floating around. Richard White is not Perry Whites son. They just happen to have the same last name in common.
