Bosworth Shows Up in Beverly Hills to Help Launch Superman Returns Merchandise

Kate Bosworth and Brandon Routh from Superman Returns were on hand at the Beverly Hills boutique, Kitson, to help celebrate the launch of the Superman Returns dolls, clothing, and accessories. But the event wasn't just a typical Hollywood party. The two Superman Returns stars were there to sign Superman and Lois Lane dolls, which will be auctioned off to benefit the Christopher Reeve Foundation. Two sets of dolls were part of a silent auction at the special event and 23 additional sets will be going up for bid on eBay.

Bosworth, back to blonde and looking fabulous, took time to talk about her role in Superman Returns before taking part in the exclusive event:

Kate Bosworth Didn’t Attempt to Copy Previous Lois Lanes: “I actually purposefully didn't watch [the films]. I've seen the Superman films before but I saw them a long time ago when I was a kid. But I purposely didn't watch them before I made the film because I didn't want to... I can see myself sort of watching that and being nervous and trying to compare myself to other Lois Lanes, and I couldn't deal with the pressure (laughing).

Bryan [Singer] and I decided that we wanted to start it fresh and be conscious of other performances but not… [the trailer for Superman’s playing in the background and at this point Kate loses her concentration to listen to Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor. Bosworth says that that particular scene was a funny one to shoot and it was bringing back a lot of good memories]. I didn't really watch it before then. I watched it after when we finished, which was a great experience because then I could really enjoy it. It was in the can; it was done. There was nothing I could have changed. But it was fun to watch, and Margot Kidder gave such a great performance.”

Meeting Random Superman Fans: Kate Bosworth escaped much of the comic convention hype (the film debuts before the year’s biggest event – the San Diego International Comic Con) but has run into a few fans anxious for the upcoming film. “They’re all very excited,” said Bosworth. “You know what's great about the fans for Superman is that they're so excited and loyal, and I think it brings a lot of people back to their childhood in a way. It's really a magical thing. I went to Blockbuster the other day to get some films and one of the people that work there said, 'Oh I'm so excited for the movie.' It's really neat to see people just coming up to you and saying that they’re excited for the film coming out. It’s really, really nice.”

On Being Immortalized in the Form of a Lois Lane Doll: “It's not the most normal experience I've ever had, but it was, to be honest with you, it was strange. I've never had a doll before made after me. It's very cool and really exciting. The eyes are different colors as well. They really paid attention to detail that way. It's neat to have a doll made after you. It's something I'll always have, that's for sure.”

It was All – or Almost All – in the Script: Asked what inspired her to do the film – the comic books, the movies, or the TV series – Bosworth said, “Probably the films. I purposefully didn’t watch a lot of the films and TV shows because I didn’t want to compare myself and what my performance would be to other past ones. To be honest, I really took it from the script. I took a lot of classic Lois Lane characteristics, the spunk, her feistiness, the independence, the drive, but it was really all there in the script. It was really an incredible script and working with Bryan it was sort of like making... I tried to do it like any other film because if I thought about the hugeness of this film, I think it would have really freaked me out. I sort of approached it like I would have any other character. I read the script, I thought about what she was feeling, what her past experiences may have been, where she's at now.”

Bosworth’s Not a Fan of Comic Books: “I hate answering this to you because I want so badly to say that I read every single comic book, but I really wasn't a huge fan. It really wasn't my thing. I was actually more into horses. But I have a whole different appreciation for them now after making the film. They're really incredible forms of art to be honest, which I appreciate about them. They're fun, but they are incredibly artistic.”

Lois Lane’s Sense of Style: “She’s such an individual. She seems to always push the envelope and do what she want to do, and what she feels is comfortable. I think that’s inspiring.”

Is It More Fun Being a Blonde?: Bosworth admits she doesn’t mind changing her hair color for different roles. “I was a brunette when I did Wonderland so it wasn’t the first time being a brunette. It’s so different when you change your hair color, you’re treated so differently. It’s a very funny experience. It’s fun – I love changing up my hair.”
