Zoe Saldana's going from one big film franchise - Pirates of the Caribbean - to another - Star Trek. The busy actress has signed on to play Uhura in Star Trek XI.
Saldana joins Zachary Quinto (Heroes) as a younger Spock and Leonard Nimoy as the older Spock in the film which is set to hit theaters in December 2008. JJ Abrams is producing and directing the eleventh film of the franchise. Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci (Transformers) wrote the screenplay.
Nothing official's been said about the plot of Star Trek XI thus far.
Saldana will next be seen in Vantage Point and is currently at work on James Cameron's Avatar.
