If all the pre-release publicity is to be believed, director Sam Raimi has done something few thought possible. After the incredible financial success of the first "Spider-Man" movie, many naysayers were certain "Spider-Man 2" would fail to live up to the first movie. It appears Raimi doesn't need to worry. "Spider-Man 2" is being greeted by positive early reviews, including one by Todd McCarthy from Variety who says this second film "improves in every way on its predecessor."

Getting even the briefest moment in time to talk to "Spider-Man 2" stars Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst and director Sam Raimi at the movie's World Premiere required patience and the ability to speak over the din. Screaming fans surrounded all the cast members and didn't let up with the noise for the entire time it took all the celebrities and special guests to complete their turns on the red carpet.

Brief though they may be, here are a few quotes from the "Spider-Man 2" World Premiere:

INTERVIEW WITH SAM RAIMI:

How does this movie compare to the first?
I think that this really follows the story of Peter Parker. The writers, the animators and all the people – all the actors – tried to create an experience where we got into Peter’s head on a much deeper level and really get to know him intimately, and really experience his pain, his struggle to do the right thing, and eventually, his triumph. So I think it’s going to be a fun movie.

How tough was it to get Doc Ock right?
It was very difficult to pull Doc Ock off. Fortunately we had a great visual effects designer, John Dykstra, and a great editor, Bob Murawski, and a great team of animators. Really, hundreds of people worked on the CGI animation to make Doc real. Then there were the puppeteers, very talented people, and their performances really give life to him. Mostly though, it’s Alfred Molina. He creates it and creates it well.

How do you keep from losing the humanity of the characters with all the special effects?
Well, that’s the thing that I’m so interested in and I think other people are too, so it’s not difficult. You just find out what the character wants, put him on that path, throw some obstacles in his way and that’s the basis of drama. That simple conflict – break the kid’s heart, then give him a new dream, and then shatter that dream. Just keep punishing him. I think that’s what people like with Peter Parker. When Stan Lee created the character, that’s what I was so attracted to.

Are there any secrets in this one that’ll lead us to the third “Spider-Man?”
There’s plenty of them – plenty of them.

When will we see another “Evil Dead?”
I’d like to make another “Evil Dead” movie. Right now I don’t have any plans to but it would be a lot of fun.

What about “Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash?”
That sounds interesting. I’d love to read a script on that if one exists.

INTERVIEWS WITH TOBEY MAGUIRE AND KIRSTEN DUNST:

Were the stunts easier the second time around?
TOBEY MAGUIRE: They were easier for me, having had the experience of doing the first movie. And the harnesses and wire rigs were better for this one, so it was easier for me.

How tough was it to work with the tentacles of Alfred Molina's character, Doc Ock?
TOBEY MAGUIRE: It was fine. You know, sometimes it was Alfred with the mechanical arms with the puppeteers and sometimes it was CGI, they weren’t even there at all. It’s just part of the job at this point.

This whole neighborhood is a madhouse with fans lined up six or seven deep to get a look at you.
KIRSTEN DUNST: (Laughing) I’m very happy to have my friends and family here and to see it with this big audience.

After two years, where is your character now?
KIRSTEN DUNST: She’s grown up a lot, she lives in New York now, and has a boyfriend. In the last movie, Peter kind of told MJ that they can only be friends and in this movie she really saves him in a way. MJ is a very strong lady in this movie.
