Jane Lynch, best known for her roles in Christopher Guest’s movies “A Mighty Wind” and “Best in Show,” co-stars in the teen comedy “Sleepover” as a mom with a wild side. In this interview with Lynch at the World Premiere of “Sleepover,” Lynch talks about her role as a mother onscreen and shares the scoop on a couple of her upcoming projects.

JANE LYNCH ('Gabby'):

We’re not used to seeing you as the mom character. Why do it for “Sleepover?”
Why not? It’s so funny, I just take whatever is offered to me. I have played mothers before, like guest stars on sitcoms and stuff like that. But I loved this, I just adored it. I’m not a mother in real life and it was just really fun. I think of myself as being about 18 years old, but I could actually have given birth to any of those children – any of them (laughing). I was of birth-giving age when they were born.

Do you still go to clubs and party on tables?
(Laughing) I don’t. That’s not me at all. Partying on a table I would do. That was a good time, I really enjoyed that sequence.

I know that you love to ad-lib. Did you do any on this movie?
Not at all. We were really close to the script but it was such a well written script. It was one of those things I laughed out loud reading it, and so you don’t want to mess with it. I don’t think I did. I know that Jeff [Garlin] did. He and I did Second City together years ago.

And you’ve also got “The Aviator” coming up.
I do. A very small, don’t blink kind of a thing but I’m Amelia Earhart. That’s great.

And you got to work with Martin Scorsese?
Yeah, just for 30 seconds or something.

Was that worth it?
Totally. That was why I did it. I mean, I drove very far and sat in make-up for a very long time for 30 seconds on screen.

Did you study for the role?
I actually did more work for that little bit of a sequence than probably this. I really researched her and I’m fascinated by her now. I didn’t know much about Amelia, and she’s a fascinating woman.

And you also appear in “Lemony Snicket’s: A Series of Unfortunate Events” opening up in a few months?
Yes, I’ve got a little role in that. I got to work with Meryl Streep. That was fabulous and she was wonderful.

What do you and Meryl Streep get to do together?
She has unreasonable fears – her character has - and she fears realtors. I’m a realtor. And she opens the door and I say, “I’d love to talk to you about your house. Is this a bad time?” And she screams at the top of her lungs and slams the door in my face – and that’s all it is. That’s all it is, but it’s great.

It sounds like you’ve been busy. Do you have anything else coming up?
I do. “Surviving Eden” is a film that Greg Pritikin did. “Surviving Eden” is a fictitious reality TV show and I play the coked-out executive producer. It’s a riot. Her soul is like crushed by this experience. Then I did a film called “The Californians” with Illeana Douglas and Noah Wyle. That should be coming out soon. I’m going up to Canada tomorrow to do three episodes of “The L-Word.” I’m going to play a flamboyant old school dyke lawyer, real butch, that wears the men’s suits and smokes a pipe. I’m so excited.

You get to play the best characters.
I get some great stuff, yeah. I’m lucky.

Is there any one character you’d like to go back and do again?
Laurie Bohner. I’d do Laurie Bohner again from “A Mighty Wind.” I’d do it at the drop of a hat.

Any chance you and Michael McKean and Christopher Guest and the rest of the gang will get back together and do another movie?
I hope so.

Is there anything in the works?
I heard Chris is working on something, but that’s all.

But you’d definitely be in it?
I hope so, we’ll see. You never know.
