JANE LYNCH ('Gabby'):
Were not used to seeing you as the mom character. Why do it for Sleepover?
Why not? Its so funny, I just take whatever is offered to me. I have played mothers before, like guest stars on sitcoms and stuff like that. But I loved this, I just adored it. Im not a mother in real life and it was just really fun. I think of myself as being about 18 years old, but I could actually have given birth to any of those children any of them (laughing). I was of birth-giving age when they were born.
Do you still go to clubs and party on tables?
(Laughing) I dont. Thats not me at all. Partying on a table I would do. That was a good time, I really enjoyed that sequence.
I know that you love to ad-lib. Did you do any on this movie?
Not at all. We were really close to the script but it was such a well written script. It was one of those things I laughed out loud reading it, and so you dont want to mess with it. I dont think I did. I know that Jeff [Garlin] did. He and I did Second City together years ago.
And youve also got The Aviator coming up.
I do. A very small, dont blink kind of a thing but Im Amelia Earhart. Thats great.
And you got to work with Martin Scorsese?
Yeah, just for 30 seconds or something.
Was that worth it?
Totally. That was why I did it. I mean, I drove very far and sat in make-up for a very long time for 30 seconds on screen.
Did you study for the role?
I actually did more work for that little bit of a sequence than probably this. I really researched her and Im fascinated by her now. I didnt know much about Amelia, and shes a fascinating woman.
And you also appear in Lemony Snickets: A Series of Unfortunate Events opening up in a few months?
Yes, Ive got a little role in that. I got to work with Meryl Streep. That was fabulous and she was wonderful.
What do you and Meryl Streep get to do together?
She has unreasonable fears her character has - and she fears realtors. Im a realtor. And she opens the door and I say, Id love to talk to you about your house. Is this a bad time? And she screams at the top of her lungs and slams the door in my face and thats all it is. Thats all it is, but its great.
It sounds like youve been busy. Do you have anything else coming up?
I do. Surviving Eden is a film that Greg Pritikin did. Surviving Eden is a fictitious reality TV show and I play the coked-out executive producer. Its a riot. Her soul is like crushed by this experience. Then I did a film called The Californians with Illeana Douglas and Noah Wyle. That should be coming out soon. Im going up to Canada tomorrow to do three episodes of The L-Word. Im going to play a flamboyant old school dyke lawyer, real butch, that wears the mens suits and smokes a pipe. Im so excited.
You get to play the best characters.
I get some great stuff, yeah. Im lucky.
Is there any one character youd like to go back and do again?
Laurie Bohner. Id do Laurie Bohner again from A Mighty Wind. Id do it at the drop of a hat.
Any chance you and Michael McKean and Christopher Guest and the rest of the gang will get back together and do another movie?
I hope so.
Is there anything in the works?
I heard Chris is working on something, but thats all.
But youd definitely be in it?
I hope so, well see. You never know.
