"Saw 2" on DVD

© Lions Gate Home Entertainment

The Bottom Line

I wasn't a fan of the original "Saw" however I'm not shy about professing my admiration for the sequel. The acting's better, the story is much, much more creepy, and the scare factor is kicked up to the maximum level.

Guide Review - "Saw 2" DVD Review

The crazed killer Jigsaw returns to add more notches to his bloody belt in "Saw 2," a much better horror film than the movie that spawned it.

This time around Jigsaw's elaborately planned out tortures are inflicted on a group of eight seemingly random strangers (including Shawnee Smith from the first "Saw") who awake from a drug-induced sleep to find themselves trapped inside a dilapidated house. Included in the group is the son of Police Detective Eric Matthews (Donnie Walhberg) who Jigsaw draws into the trap by making it all personal.

The Bonus Features

You don't have to be a sicko to want to know how each of the torture devices featured in "Saw 2" was created and the DVD provides all the gory details. The "Bits and Pieces" featurette is also very cool for those who love to check out all the behind the scenes tricks of the trade. Also worth sitting through is the commentary track, which features writer/director Bousman and two of the actors dissecting the scenes and sharing all the secrets from the set. The only drawback to listening to the commentary track is they mention the deleted scenes yet they're not included on the DVD. Too bad - they sound like they'd be interesting to check out.
