The studios announced "Saw II" director Darren Lynn Bousman has agreed to return to helm "Saw III." In my recent interview with Bousman before he signed on to "Saw III," asked if he'd return to direct another "Saw" movie the director said, "You know what? I love the Saw franchise. Its a breath of fresh air for me. It all depends upon the story. If someone came to me with an amazing story that blew me out of the water, then of course I would consider doing a Saw III. What I dont want to do is make another movie which is just for the cash. I consider myself not a huge Hollywood type of guy. Im not into the parties or the fame or the money. That doesnt interest me. Im a movie geek. I love good movies. I love movies that make me feel something. So if I read a script that was absolutely disturbing, made me squirm and gag, then yeah Id probably do it. Its all about the story at this point."
Leigh Whannell and James Wan ("Saw," "Saw II") developed the story for "Saw III" and Whannell's writing the screenplay. Mark Burg and Oren Koules are producing with Whannell and Wan executive producing.
In a statement issued by Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures, senior Lionsgate executives Peter Block and Jason Constantine said, "Yes, there will be more blood. 'Saw III' will involve the same creative forces responsible for the tremendous success of 'Saw II.' The Twisted team of Mark and Oren, along with Darren, James and Leigh, have all agreed to be prominently involved in 'Saw III.' We are proud to be partnered with some of the most disturbing creative talents on the planet, and the 'Saw' franchise will ensure that gore becomes every bit as much a Halloween staple as ghosts, goblins and candy corn."
Twisted Pictures team Mark Burg and Oren Koules added, We have been discussing story lines that extend the 'Saw' franchise to new limits and beyond with Lionsgate for the past several months. The most important element of any franchise is remaining true to the roots of its success. We believe that we are developing a script that is certain to please the 'Saw' franchises core fans while adding fresh, terrifying and unimaginable new twists to the 'Saw' saga. Jigsaw himself would be proud.
When asked what fans can expect from "Saw III," director Bousman told me, "The one thing I can guarantee about the Saw series is that its never about what you think it is. Its always something darker more sinister going on. I think if everyone does their jobs right with the Saw franchise, youll never be able to guess whats going to happen next.
"Saw III" will be dedicated to Twisted Pictures principal and "Saw" producer Gregg Hoffman, who passed away in November 2005.
