Mark Ruffalo on Playing a Good Guy: Having interviewed Mark Ruffalo a few times now, I feel safe in saying playing a nice guy probably comes pretty easy to the talented actor. Asked why he keeps getting these nice guy scripts, Ruffalo says, "They say you play best what is the furthest from you. I dont know why, dammit (laughing). Why do they keep saying that about me?
You know on more of my obscure films, I kind of can play both sides of it. I come from the theater and they kind of let you do whatever you want there. They dont pigeonhole you too much so now Im going back to finding [those roles]. I had a friend call me and say, 'Okay, Im sick of seeing you play these please love me parts. Its time for you to do a serial killer now. And you know, part of me, I like the dramatic stuff, too. I think that everyone has a little bit of everything in them."
Mark Ruffalo on "Rumor Has It" and "The Graduate:" There's no question "The Graduate" is a true cinematic classic but how many of Jennifer Aniston's younger fans will know the story from that 1967 film? Ruffalo says you don't have to have seen "The Graduate" to get "Rumor Has It." "I think its well explained in it along the way. But its such a departure from the movie, its not a prequel or sequel really. Its just using that story as a way into another story."
Mark Ruffalo on Playing the Female Part of a Romantic Relationship: "I never thought of it that way (laughing). I always thought I was a guy. You know, he really is the one who wants a mellow, staid life. I think its part of his problem. He isnt dangerous. He wont have sex in the airplane bathroom What kind of guy is that? I have heard it said that he is the female equivalent of the love triangle. He just wants commitment."
Mark Ruffalo on His Onscreen Love Interest Jennifer Aniston: "Awesome. Love her. I had such a good time. So classy, kind, and in the face of everything that she was going through which at the time I had no idea I even love her more."
Mark Ruffalo Shares His Personal Oscar Picks: "Oh man, 'The Squid and the Whale.' "The Constant Gardener' I thought was amazing. I havent seen everything yet so I cant really make an informed decision. But what I have seen, I really love those."
Speaking of the Oscars... Why did "All the Kings Men," a movie many thought would be up for awards this year, get pushed back to 2006? "They werent finished with it. Everyone felt like, Hey, why rush this? Its such a nice piece of work theres no reason to rush this, so well hold it off until next year.' We were rushing it."
