The Bottom Line

Milla Jovovich returns to kick some more zombie butt in Resident Evil: Extinction, the third film based on the popular video game series. This one isn't quite as action-packed as its predecessors; the filmmakers instead chose to work on a little more character development. If you're a huge action fan, then you may not be happy about large chunks of RE3.

Guide Review - Resident Evil: Extinction DVD Review

The Story

The Umbrella Corporation is once again up to no good as RE3 unfolds. They're after Alice's blood and Alice isn't about to give it up willingly.

Hitting the road, Alice joins up with fellow survivors searching for a hospitable area to live. But the Umbrella Corporation, killer crows, and the walking dead aren't about to let the group find peace. However, Alice has developed new powers and there's not much that can stop her once she decides on a plan of action.

The Bonus Features

The Resident Evil: Extinction DVD's best extra material has to be the set of four Making Of featurettes. 'Alice Vision: Preproduction', 'The Big Bang: Shooting Resident Evil: Extinction', 'Bigger, Faster, Stronger: The Undead Evolve', and 'Vegas Visual Effects: Miniatures' provide an in-depth behind-the-scenes look at the third film of the Resident Evil franchise. Everything from the making of the zombies to staging fight scenes to handling the heat on the set of RE3 are covered in these impressive and informative featurettes.

The Resident Evil: Extinction DVD also includes 11 deleted scenes (none of which would have added much to the feature film) as well as a sneak peek at Resident Evil: Degeneration, the first CGI RE film. There's also a commentary track with director Russell Mulcahy, writer/producer Paul W S Anderson, and producer Jeremy Bolt. Their commentary provides some interesting insights into why they took the plot a certain direction and what life was like on the hot, hot set.
