The movie musical genre is alive and well. The resurgence of the slumbering genre continues with the release of director Chris Columbus and Sony Pictures' big screen adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, "Rent."

Rob Cavallo (Goo Goo Dolls, Green Day producer) produced the soundtrack, which features performances by members of the original Broadway cast who've made the transition to the film version of the hit stage musical. As one of the few newcomers to the "Rent" cast, Rosario Dawson - better known for tackling dramatic roles - shows she's up to the challenge of singing and dancing her way through a musical.

"Rent" was written by Jonathan Larson and is based on Puccini's immortal opera "La Boheme." "Rent" tells the story of a group of free-spirited artists living and loving in New York's East Village in the midst of the AIDS epidemic.
