Recently Released Movies or New Films on DVD/Video

"Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close" touched us in 2011 and earned a spot at the top of this Best of list.

It was a real toss-up as to which of four films would wind up in first place on my Top 10 list, with the decision hanging in the air until the very last minute. Christopher Nolan's "Inception" is unique, thought-provoking and visually stunning, "The Fighter's" a powerful underdog story, and what "Winter's Bone" accomplished on a bare-bones budget puts major studio productions to shame. But ultimately it was David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin's riveting exploration of the creation of Facebook as revealed in "The Social Network" that won out (ask me tomorrow and one of the other films could easily vault into first place).

I had a tough time deciding on which 2010 theatrical release was my favorite film of 2010, and I included a teen comedy on my Top 10 list - which everything else ignored. What film left an impression on you and why?

In 2010 comedies remained popular at the box office, however this year there were more misses than hits. "Due Date," "How Do You Know" and "Valentine's Day" didn't live up to expectations, proving once again that just because a film features big name actors that doesn't ensure it'll be a critical and/or box office success. Fortunately, there were enough genuinely funny films to fill out this Top 10 list - although just barely.

Other than "Iron Man 2," 2010 was pretty much devoid of big-name superhero films, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. After a glut of well-known comic book-inspired films in 2009, in 2010 action fans were served up lesser known comic book characters ("Red," "The Losers," "Kick-Ass") and for the most part the film adaptations of the less recognizable comic characters successfully made the jump to the big screen. But overall 2010 was a disappointing year for action movies.
