The celebrity couple had the extraordinary cooperation of the Namibian government as they awaited the birth of their daughter. Journalists and photographers have been kept away from the couple with the Namibian police, according to the Associated Press, going as far as to confiscate film from photographers who've managed to get close enough to snap photos.
Brad Pitt, 42, and Angelina Jolie, 30, grew close while filming Mr and Mrs Smith although both actors have stated they were not involved romantically during the shoot. Pitt and actress Jennifer Aniston divorced late last year. Jolie has two adopted children - Zahara and Maddox - and was married to actors Billy Bob Thornton and Jonny Lee Miller.
Pitt's spokesperson said both mother and daughter are doing well.
