Principal photography will begin on October 13 in Holland, with Laurence Malkin ("Soul Assassins") at the helm. Malkin and his writing partner Chad Thumann penned the script. Their other writing projects include "Triggerfish," set up at Paramount with Robert Evans and the Russo Brothers; "The Beltway" at Miramax; and "The Anderson Tapes" produced by Laurence Mark at Sony.
In addition to Executive Producer Nazarian, the film will be produced by Element President Adam Rosenfelt, Fishburne and Helen Sugland from their Cinema Gypsy Productions. Dolly Hall, Josh Kesselman, Kelley Feldsott Reynolds and Marc Schaberg will also produce. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman take executive producing credits as well. The project was brought to Element by Director of Development Julie Dangel.
"Five Fingers" centers on an idealist Dutchman (Phillippe) who travels to Morocco to start a food program for the poverty stricken. Upon arrival, he is kidnapped by a terrorist (Fishburne) who interrogates and subsequently tortures him for information.
Fishburne, soon to be seen in "Assault on Precinct 13," is repped by Sam Gores at Paradigm and Helen Sugland of Landmark Artists Management. Nina Shaw and Jeff Finklestein of Dell, Shaw Moonves, Tanaka & Finklestein negotiated his deal.
Phillippe, coming off the Sundance favorite "Crash," and soon to be released "Chaos," is represented by David Schiff and Pamela Cole at UTA. David Weber of Offer, Weber and Dern negotiated his deal.
Malkin and Thumann are represented by UTA and Principal Entertainment, with Shep Rosenman and Julie Roach of Katz Golden & Sullivan brokering their deal.
