Clive Owen Finds a Spot in "The Golden Age"

Owen Joins Cate Blanchett and Geoffrey Rush for "The Golden Age"

Sep 1, 2005 - Cate Blanchett will be reprising her role of Queen Elizabeth I for "The Golden Age," co-starring Clive Owen and Geoffrey Rush.

"The Golden Age" is the sequel to the 1998 critically acclaimed film "Elizabeth" which earned seven Academy Award nominations, including one for Best Picture and a Best Actress nomination for Blanchett. The sequel will follow the relationship between Queen Elizabeth I and the explorer Walter Raleigh (Clive Owen). Geoffrey Rush returns as Queen Elizabeth's close friend and ally, Sir Francis Walsingham.

"Elizabeth" director Shekhar Kapur returns to helm "The Golden Age" from a script by William Nicholson and Michael Hirst.

Tim Bevan, Eric Feller, and Jonathan Cavendish will produce the film which is expected to begin filming in April 2006.
