April 16, 2007 - In one of the more interesting bits of casting news of 2007, two-time Academy Award-nominee Edward Norton (American History X, Primal Fear) has signed on to star in the Marvel Studios and Universal Pictures movie, The Incredible Hulk. The film will be directed by Unleashed and Transporter 2 helmer Louis Leterrier.
In a press release announcing the casting of Norton, President of Production at Marvel Studios Kevin Feige said, "Edward Norton is a rare talent and one of the most versatile actors in the business. His ability to transform into a particular role makes him the ideal choice to take on the character of Bruce Banner/The Hulk. Edward is perfectly suited to bring one of the most popular and important Marvel icons to the big screen in a new and exciting way."
According to Marvel Entertainment, The Incredible Hulk film will return to the roots of the comic book series. The story will find Bruce Banner on the run and looking for a cure for his condition.
Filming is expected to begin this summer in Toronto. The Incredible Hulk will hit theaters on June 13, 2008.
Edward Norton recently received critical acclaim for his starring roles in the 2006 films The Illusionist and The Painted Veil. Norton will next be seen opposite Colin Farrell in Pride and Glory.
In 2003 Eric Bana played Bruce Banner in Hulk. Directed by Ang Lee (who went on to win an Oscar for Brokeback Mountain) Hulk was bashed by critics and Hulk fans alike.
