David Ayer Will Direct "The Wild Bunch" for Warner Bros Pictures

Another Classic Gets the Remake Treatment

By Rebecca Murray, About.com

Nov 4 2005
David Ayer, the man who wrote "Training Day," "Dark Blue," and "S.W.A.T." - and who wrote, produced and directed "Harsh Times" starring Christian Bale - is in final talks to take writing and directing duties on the remake of "The Wild Bunch."

Apparently producer Jerry Weintraub fell for Ayer's directing style after seeing "Harsh Times" at the Toronto Film Festival. Weintraub told The Hollywood Reporter, "He's a wonderful writer, and we thought he should direct his own script. He can handle this. I think all the actors in town will want to work with him because he's s got 'the stuff.' He's the real thing."

The original "Wild Bunch" was a violent Western headlined by William Holden and followed the adventures of a bunch of old outlaws out for one last big score. The remake of "The Wild Bunch" will be a thriller set in contemporary times and involve the CIA and drugs cartels.
