Blizzard and Legendary Team Up for a Warcraft Movie

The Popular Video Game is Set to Become a Feature Film

Yet another video game is going to make the jump to the big screen. Blizzard Entertainment's hugely popular Warcraft video game series will become a live-action movie set to be released by Legendary Pictures.

The storyline of the film will not follow along the lines of one of the four Warcraft games. Instead of duplicating videogamers adventures, the movie will be set in the Warcraft world of orcs, elves, and trolls. The actual plot has yet to be disclosed.

In a joint press release by Blizzard Entertainment and Legendary Pictures, Chief Operating Office of Blizzard Entertainment Paul Sams said, "We searched for a very long time to find the right studio for developing a movie based on one of our game universes. Many companies approached us in the past, but it wasn't until we met with Legendary Pictures that we felt we'd found the perfect partner. They clearly share our high standards for creative development, and because they understand the vision that we've always strived for with our Warcraft games, we feel there isn't a better studio out there for bringing the Warcraft story to film."

Legendary Pictures' Chief Creative Officer Jon Jashni added, "It's not always the case that interactive game properties lend themselves to proper adaptation to film. We are intending to approach this as we would the adaptation of a best-selling novel: respect the essence of all that it is but also build upon that fertile base while translating it into a new medium."

Blizzard/Legendary expect to announce who will direct Warcraft as well as the cast and targeted release date in the next couple of months.
