Writers Take on "The Untouchables" Prequel

By Rebecca Murray, About.com

David Levien and Brian Koppelman ("Walking Tall," "Rounders") have signed on to the Paramount Pictures project, "The Untouchables: Capone Rising." The prequel to the 1987 movie, which starred Kevin Costner and Sean Connery, will be directed by Antoine Fuqua ("King Arthur," "Training Day").

According to Variety, the prequel will center around Al Capone's emergence as the leader of the criminal underworld and officer Jimmy Malone's first dealings with the gangster.

Variety quotes writer Levien as saying, "The film starts on the even of Capone's arrival, and while Malone wasn't the most corrupt cop, he operated at a time when every cop was on the take. Once he crosses paths with Capone, he sees a level of violence and criminality that causes him to have a moral awakening."
