June 3, 2008 - The Office star Rainn Wilson has landed a role in Transformers 2, the 2009 sequel to blockbuster hit Transformers. Director Michael Bay's currently in production on the sequel with DreamWorks Pictures aiming for a June 26, 2009 release.

At the press junket for The Rocker, Wilson confirmed he's definitely going to be a part of the Transformers 2 cast alongside returning Transformers stars Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox. Wilson described his role as a cameo and said he'll only be on the set for a couple of days. Wilson also admitted he's never watched Bay's first Transformers movie.

Asked to describe his role in Transformers 2, Wilson laughed and replied, "I am going to be playing a robot who doesn’t turn into a car, he turns into a college professor. [He] decides to kind of live a life of inept and quiet academia."

Transformers hit theaters on July 3, 2007 and made $150 million during its first week in release, going on to earn $700 worldwide over the course of its theatrical run, which made greenlighting a sequel a no-brainer. Transformers screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci came up with the story, while Ehren Kruger (Blood and Chocolate) wrote the screenplay.

In addition to his starring role in the comedy movie The Rocker set for release on August 1, 2008, the popular actor is also providing a voice in the animated family film Monsters vs Aliens.
