According to Variety, Pierce Brosnan has come onboard the sequel to "The Thomas Crown Affair:" "The Topkapi Affair." The 1964 MGM film, "Topkapi," will serve as fodder for this new version. That film, which earned Peter Ustinov an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, followed the theft of a dagger from an Istanbul museum.
Harley Peyton ("Bandits") is writing the script, with Pierce Brosnan, Beau St. Clair, and Dino Conte producing. Producer St. Clair told Variety "The Topkapi Affair" will have a post-Sept. 11 sensibility. "New York during 'The Crown Affair' was thriving. Now his values, all the things he does, have been affected (by Sept. 11). We want to take the character further, crack him open, put him in an international backdrop," commented St. Clair.
