Variety reports T.J. Hooker, the 1980s TV series which starred William Shatner in the title role, is being made into a feature film. Chuck Russell (The Scorpion King) will direct T.J. Hooker from a screenplay by Brent Maddock and S.S. Wilson (the Tremors team).

The original series featured a cast of well-coiffed actors patroling the streets. Shatner played Sgt T.J. Hooker, a tough veteran cop who paired up with rookie Vince Romano (Adrian Zmed of Grease 2). Heather Locklear and her gorgeous blonde locks also starred in the buddy cop drama.

In an interview with Variety producer Ryan Heppe explained the tone they're going for with the T.J. Hooker film: "The series was the poster child for cop TV shows in the 1980s with great stunts, so we think there's a fun movie to be made from it."

There's no word yet on casting or if William Shatner will make a cameo appearance in the film.
